task requirements & details
task 1Water Quality Comparison Study
|
task 2Simulation of Possible Impacts of Fertilisation Plant Operation on Coochin Creek Water Quality
|
Using the results from the tests conducted, determine the present water quality of Coochin Creek and compare this data to data collected from tests conducted between 2012 and 2014.
Your presentation to Council must include:
Assessment/Activity Timeline:
Week 3- Excursion to Coochin Creek and USC Chemistry Lab Week 4- Testing of samples at GCCC Lab Week 5- Experiment Proposals and Risk Assessment Week 6- Testing and Data Analysis Week 7- Data Analysis Tasks 1&2 due at the end of week 7 ( FRIDAY 4th September ) Presentations:
You may present your content to Council in a number of different ways depending on your interest, skills, knowledge and ability with regard to the presentation technologies available to you. Possible modes of presentation include but are not limited to:
You can choose to use the same mode of presentation to present your simulation experiments (Task 2), or you may choose a different mode all together. Assignment Lengths:
Task 1- 500 to 1000 words Task 2- 1000 to 1500 words (discussion and conclusion) Spoken Task (Oral Presentation)- 5-7 minutes |
Design experiments to simulate the possible effects on two of the above variables, due to the release of pollutants (fertiliser products &/or byproducts) into Coochin Creek by the fertiliser company FASTGRO.
( Note: One simulation needs to involve a titration ) Research Journal: You must keep a research journal that shows the progress of your experiments. This journal should include planning, ideas, notes, results, analysis and research. Your research journal is a working document that will allow you to better prepare your presentation of your experiments. It doesn't have to be typed, but should be organised so that you can easily navigate throughout your journal. Please refer to the examples provided in class. Presentation of Experiments: Because there are different modes presentation being used, there is no specific format that you must follow with regards to the inclusion of information. However, as a general rule, the headings found in a Practical Report should be evident in your presentation:
Risk Assessments:
It is essential that you carry out a Risk Assessment on your experiments to minimise potential risk and ensure safe disposal of wastes. All experiments must be approved by your teacher before they can be preformed. To complete your risk assessment please go to the link below and login using details given to you by your teacher. Once you and your teacher have signed the risk assessment please email a copy to Mrs. Ritson so she is aware of your experiments and materials required. In-Text Referencing and Annotated Bibliography
Regardless of the mode of presentation you choose, you are required to reference your work in-text, using an appropriate format for the mode of presentation you've chosen to use (eg- Footnoting, Endnoting, etc). Regardless of the format you choose, you must include a comprehensive reference list, for which the citations are complete (according to either the referencing guide icite which can be found on Connect). You must also complete an annotated bibliography on 3 sources of your choice. Please read the help document provided to complete your annotations (following the formatting outlined). |
